A couple weeks ago I submitted a photo to Pictorymag.com. Today I got an email informing me that my photo was chosen to be in their Spring Breakout showcase. My photo is number seven in the showcase, you can view it at the link below.

Squirt’s hand puppet

The other day my wife asked Squirt to show me what he showed her (see photo). My jaw dropped to the floor when he explained what it was, “Coco (local innuendo for vagina)!” Thank goodness this is not something he has been repeating, I guess he learned that it’s not something good to do. Despite our repeated questions he refuses to tell us where he learned that from. His answers so far, “From the star” and “From the tree.”

My mantra for this year

Mantra

This past week we celebrated Squirt’s 3rd birthday. With that milestone in the bag my focus and excitement turns to the year ahead. More specifically, Squirt entering preschool later this year. Until now, most of his days have been spent free-playing or watching Disney DVDs. I realized a lot of that time could have been spent more constructively for his education and creativity. This is exactly what I want to correct with this mantra, “What will my son learn today? What will I teach him?”

This phrase is general enough to apply to fatherhood entirely but for now it will be my motivation to turn off the TV a couple hours each day, make time to read to my son, reinforce his manners and help him gain confidence in his social skills. To kick of this little endeavor today I’m going to buy a box of Uno cards to play with him to help him learn his numbers, he already has colors down pat. I will also get a couple comic books to read to him, we may even start a comic book collection–I had one when I was a boy. We’re going to drive by his future preschool more often so he gets use to the idea. I tell you, I’m getting really excited about this year. Wish us luck, ’til next time!

If your car won’t start but makes a clicking sound when you turn the key it means it’s not getting enough voltage. Check your battery post clamps, just give them a jiggle and try it again. Remember to tighten and/or clean them when you get a chance.

Good morning, getting ready for Squirt’s Birthday party today, check out the pinata.

We searched all over for an Ironman pinata and this was the only one we could find, actually, it looks pretty good. Now I have to get all that candy in via a 2 inch hole.

Photos from our trip to The Belize Zoo

The Belize Zoo is small and is among bushes so there are not that many photo opps but these few turned out okay.

“Yes, it’s very cool” — my custom invitation for Squirt’s Birthday Party

Yesterday the wife told me we're having a last minute party for Squirt's 3rd birthday this weekend and I have to make the invitations.  Last time I did this it was for his 1st birthday and I had about a week to hammer it out, this time, I had one day.

Here's what I managed to put together (wish I had more time):

Compare it to the awesomeness of his first birthday invitation:

The wife just ran off to order an Ironman cake, get decorations, kids games, etc.  At least I already have some party music.  …Go Squirt, it's your birthday!!…

Wisdom for my Son No. 18

When trying to drive a small nail it may be difficult to hold it the traditional way, between your thumb and index finger, while still efficiently striking the nail and not your knuckles. Instead, hold it between your index and middle fingers with your palm facing you and your knuckles against the surface. Firmly but gently tap the nail until it can stay in the surface by its self then move your hand away and drive it in the rest of the way with consecutively stronger swings. Also, hold the hammer near the end of the handle and not up high near the head.

Squirt and I are DEFINITELY going to see this, Ironman is his favorite superhero

A favorite toy

Squirt spotted one of his old toys in the storage and begged me to pull it out. Since then he’s been zipping around the house none stop on it. Almost makes me wish I had one too, looks pretty comfortable.
